Mandurama
In
the mid 1800’s the village of Mandurama began developing, as a private
settlement for the large close by Icely family property with workers from
the property establishing their homes in the village.
Evidence
of the importance of the village is evident in the fine old buildings such
as the magnificent Royal Hotel, Masonic Hall, churches and bank premises.
The architectural styles in the village are a mixture.
Mandurama
boasts an impressive park and is well serviced by the Mid Western Highway.
There
are several large impressive homesteads not far from the village including
Sunny Ridge and Millamolong. At Millamolong there is a guest house and
horse riding available.
The
name “Millamolong” means “sick mans creek” where aboriginals came
to drink the creek water to heal their sicknesses the first inhabited
building on this property was the slab hut built in the 1830’s.
